COACHING STAFF
Coaching Staff
Swim With Beth is incredibly grateful to all of the coaches that help make the program a success. Below is a list of several of the coaches with the Swim With Beth program. Unfortunately, not all of the coaching staff is featured due to the large number of coaches that work and/or volunteer at SWB. The list below is not exhaustive, and is just to serve as an introduction to several members of the SWB coaching staff.
Chris Bedell
Chris Bedell has worked for SWB since he was 12 years old. His passion to teach can be seen and heard! Chris enjoys watching his swimmers develop good strokes.
Rachel Anderson-Ridenour
Rachel Anderson-Ridenour swam for the LRR Stingrays and Mason Makos while growing up, and competed at The College of William & Mary from 2014-2018. Her favorite strokes/events were the 200 fly and the 400 IM. Rachel grew up coaching for the LRR Stingrays, before transitioning to a head coach position at Lake Braddock Lakers for four years. Rachel has been a coach at SWB for many years, and has worked with swimmers ranging from beginners learning to swim to year-round competitive athletes. Her favorite part of coaching is seeing swimmers develop their love and confidence for the sport. Rachel's fun fact is that she competed at least once in all swim events (including the mile!) by the time she was 11 years old.
Jessica Dickinson
Jessica Dickinson started swimming at Sully Station when she was 4 and joined the Mason Makos at the age of 7. Her favorite event was the 500 free, but she loved anything distance. Jessica started coaching for her summer swim team at 13, started coaching for Swim with Beth in 2018, and eventually became the head coach of the Annandale Swim and Tennis Club. Her favorite part of coaching is instilling the love of swimming in children.
Katie Yost
Katie Yost started swimming for the Little Rocky Run Stingrays when she was 7 years old, and became a Mason Mako quickly after. Katie started coaching when she was 12 years old and has been coaching for Swim with Beth since 2008. Katie swam year-round for a number of years and loves backstroke and butterfly. She graduated from Paul VI High School in 2013. While attending PVI, Katie was Captain of the Panthers Swim and Dive Team her senior year. Katie has coached for the Lake Braddock Lakers as their co-head coach and assistant coach, and is returning for her fourth year as the head coach of the Junior Swim Team at Army Navy Country Club. Katie graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in Special Education. She is currently teaching in a K-2 emotional disabilities classroom at Laurel Ridge Elementary. Katie has been coaching and teaching children of all ages and abilities how to swim for 15 years and enjoys working with swimmers and watching their confidence and ability in the water grow. She has a true love for swimming and hopes to instill the joy of the sport in all her swimmers.
Hannah Warnick
Hannah Warnick started coaching for Swim with Beth in 2011. She began swimming at the age of 6 and swam for numerous teams growing up, including the Poplar Tree Pirates (NVSL), Mason Makos and Chantilly HS Swim Team. Her favorite stroke to swim was backstroke. Hannah was also a Mini Mako Coach for 6 years and spent 7 years coaching for the Poplar Tree Pirates in the NVSL. Hannah graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor's in Mathematics in 2020 and a Master's of Education in Curriculum & Instruction in 2021. She currently works as a middle school math teacher in FCPS. Hannah looks forward to helping the swimmers improve their stroke technique, while maintaining a positive atmosphere and fostering a lifelong love of swimming.
Aine Maloney
Aine Maloney swims for the Villa Gorillas and Fairfax Foxes swim teams. She started swimming at age 7 for the Gorillas and swam with Coach Beth for two years before joining the Foxes. She has been coaching since she was 12 and for Swim with Beth since 2021. She loves coaching because she gets to share the sport she loves with kids and foster an environment where they can learn to love the sport, too. Her favorite events are the 100 and 200 breaststroke, as well as the 100 butterfly. Outside of swimming, Aine enjoys cheering for her favorite sports team, Washington Nationals.
Anna Helms
Anna Helms is an 8th grader at South County Middle School. She began swimming with Coach Beth around age 4, and has been swimming since she was 6 years old on the Crosspointe Cruisers and on the Mason Makos since age 7. Her favorite events are 50 and 100 freestyle, and 200 backstroke. She enjoys coaching because it makes her excited to see new, young swimmers create a love for the water and start their swimming future, just like she did.
Megan Ice
Megan Ice is currently a senior at Marshall high school. She has been swimming competitively year-round for 12 years at Mason Makos and Lee Graham. Her favorite stroke is breaststroke and she also plays volleyball! Megan's favorite part of coaching is looking forward to helping the next generation of swimmers, and she's very excited to continue coaching at Swim with Beth!
Hudson Mar
Hudson Mar has been swimming his whole life at Lee Graham and over the winter with York. He currently attends Marshall High School. Hudson's favorite part about coaching is because he loves working with kids and seeing them progress. A cool fact about Hudson is he can unicycle (a little bit).
Josef Gruendel
Josef Gruendel currently attends Robinson Secondary School. He has been swimming since he was six years old, and he started swimming competitively with Mason Makos when he was seven years old. Josef enjoys coaching because he loves to help kids improve their strokes and get better at recreational and competitive swimming. His favorite event/stroke is the IM. A cool fact about Josef is that he runs Robinson Cross Country and plays lacrosse for Top Caliber.
Leah Magenheimer
Leah is a freshman at CVHS whose interests are swimming and running. She has swam for her local neighborhood swim team, the Stingrays, since she was five years old, as well as competed on the Makos and CSC club swim teams. This year Leah competed on the CVHS swim team, as well as the high school cross country team.
